A leaning or wobbly fence usually comes down to the posts. When a post breaks or rots at the ground, the sections on both sides start to move. We remove the damaged post and set a new one in concrete, so the fence stands straight again.
Sections that lean or move when you push them, posts that are cracked or soft at the ground, a gate that drags, sags or will not stay latched, and gray, splitting wood are the usual signs. Fixing a loose post or gate early keeps the damage from spreading to the sections next to it.
Gates see more wear than any other part of a fence. We repair sagging or sticking gates and replace hinges, latches and hardware so they close securely and swing smoothly.
Sun and moisture gray out a wood fence over time. Cleaning, staining and sealing protect the wood and bring back its color. For older fences we combine the repairs and the refinishing into one restoration project.
Posts are not the only weak spot. Strong wind pushes hard on a solid privacy fence, heavy rain softens the ground around the posts, and sprinklers, vines and soil piled against the boards keep the wood wet. Pointing sprinklers away, trimming plants back and keeping soil and mulch off the boards all help a repaired fence last.
A strong storm can snap posts, push over sections or drop a tree limb on the fence. Take photos of the damage before anything is moved, since your insurance company may ask for them, and keep kids and pets away from sections that lean.
If most of the fence is sound, new posts and a gate repair can make it solid again. If the damage is widespread, we explain the options on site, including a new fence, and you decide.
